A BIRD OF A DIFFERENT FEATHER. Our journey began in 1990 and it was not long before Red Rooster became known for producing award-winning wines that express the very best of the Okanagan. We also became known for a style of hospitality that wasn't quite like the other wineries in the area. The art displays, large patio and open grounds encourage visitors to stay a while. Frank, the sparsely attired statue on our front lawn, raises a few eyebrows.
WINEMAKING, WE'RE MORE THAN A LITTLE OBSESSED. Red Rooster wines are proudly VQA, created from grapes grown in the Okanagan. Our wines are crafted with a gentle approach and minimal intervention during the winemaking process. Each is fruit forward, allowing the best characteristics of the Okanagan Valley to be reflected in the wine. Some are for every day; others are for putting away, if you can restrain yourself.
LOCATED A FEW DOORS DOWN FROM ORDINARY. Nestled in the heart of the Okanagan, the Red Rooster winery features stunning views of our award-winning vineyard and picturesque Lake Okanagan. It's here that we bring together the craft of winemaking, local artwork and the members of our community, making us a premiere destination on the Naramata Bench. If you'd like to visit, you can find us at 891 Naramata Bench Road in Penticton, BC. For more information about our special events and tastings visit Red Rooster Winery.

THE RULER OF THE ROOST. As approachable and engaging as the wine she crafts, our winemaker Karen Gillis has been with us since 2007. She believes quality winemaking requires a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves method. While Red Rooster is already known for making great VQA wines, Karen's vision is to become the benchmark for quality in the Okanagan.
ABOUT THE WINE Picked over several days in October, our 2011 Chardonnay was whole cluster pressed to extract a clean, pure fruit expression. For added depth of flavour and complexity a small portion of the wine was exposed to American oak. To further enhance the mouth-feel the wine was also aged Sur Lie.
TASTING NOTE Showing great pride within the flock. Bright lemon yellow colour with a clean, fresh aroma of apple, pear, yellow plum and white peach. This light to medium-bodied Chardonnay is a refreshing fruit-forward style, showing plenty of apple, pineapple, yellow plum and honeydew melon flavours. Refreshing notes of lemon, green apple and white peach are accented by a delicate touch of oak on the finish. Drink while young and fresh.
FOOD PAIRINGS Serve with roasted lemon chicken; turkey with creamy aioli on crusty rolls; coconut shrimp skewers; crab or lobster salads; crab cakes with mayo dipping sauce; pan-fried fish fillets; spring pea and salmon risotto; salmon, lemon, dill crepes. Yum!
