About The Vibrant Vine: When my dad showed up at my house in Boulder Colorado and asked me to move to Canada to start a winery I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Owning a winery is a never ending job that never gets easier. First comes the trellis and irrigation, then comes the planting. Now you've made a commitment to a lifetime of keeping them alive. At this point you start to become attached to the little guys and can no longer accept the idea of selling them as grapes to some other guy that gets to turn them into wine. I remember typing "How do I make wine?" into google. Oh if only I hadn't had access to the Internet... Six months later we were squishing grapes. Then my Mom and Dad took off South to the sunshine for six months! Thank you Steve Jobs for the IWinemaker app on my iPhone! A couple of months later we had about a thousand cases of wine.We quickly moved out of the farm house and remodeled it into the Vibrant Vine wine shop, put up a couple billboards, ran some radio ads and waited for people to show up. Looking back it's hard to believe it worked. Then comes October and you gotta do it all again, only this time you double your production. This means you have to hit the road and get your wine in liquor stores. Lots and lots of liquor stores! I found this sweet app for locating liquor stores in Canada. It uses a GPS and a map that shows all the liquor stores as green dots and me as a blue dot. Basically I have been driving around for the last year putting my blue dot on top of the green dots. I have have been to more than 300 green dots so far, and not only have the green dots turned out to have been cool people, but most of them are now selling Vibrant Vine wine. Thats all the stuff that brings me to where I am right now, sitting on this park bench in WhiteRock typing my story with my thumbs waiting for the wine shops to open.
