Album Review

A hard-to-find collection of 18 rare and unreleased tracks by the band. It doesn't include three of the four songs on their first two singles, but it includes their ultra-rare follow-ups, as well as some rawer, unreleased versions of those later singles and some Andy Ellison solo 45s. The material borrows from the poppiest aspects of the Who and sprinkles in some campy British psychedelia; Bolan's songs and vocals are quite T. Rex-like, even at this early stage. They manage to get a bit tougher with "Jagged Time Lapse," with crashing drums and power chords aplenty. Ellison's solo singles are quite interesting, especially the oddball folk-psychedelic "Cornflake Zoo" and the bizarre lounge/soul version of the Beatles' "Help!" (unlisted on the sleeve). Includes voluminous liner notes.
