Album Review

The Flamingos and Moonglows were among doo-wop's finest and longest-running ensembles. These groups defined the idiom's virtues: beautiful, impassioned harmonies, breathtaking lead vocals, and often unforgettable storytelling abilities. This 25-track reissue, matching the groups with either the King Kolax or Red Holloway Orchestras, contains numerous incredible selections. The Flamingos' "Golden Teardrops" and "Jump Children" are doo-wop standards, as are The Moonglows' "Secret Love" and "Just A Lonely Christmas." Sound quality fluctuates due to a lack in some cases of master tapes, but nothing diminishes the vocal excellence displayed on every cut.
