Album Review

No one in the Memphis minstrel/traveling show or early blues tradition had a more distinguished career than Frank Stokes. This is marvelous, inspiring guitar, done in such a spry and captivating manner that you forget Stokes got his start working alongside a blackface comedian in the early '20s, or that much of this material by even 1950s standards was borderline offensive at best.
