Album Review

Country Music Hall of Fame contains 16 tracks Jimmie Davis recorded between 1934 and 1954 for Decca Records. The material ranges from country blues and novelties to gospel, Western swing, and honky tonk with a few pop crossovers like his signature hit "You Are My Sunshine" and "Nobody's Darling but Mine" thrown in for good measure. Though some of his biggest hits are missing -- including "Is It Too Late Now," "Bang Bang," and "There's a Chill on the Hill Tonight" -- the collection nevertheless draws a representative portrait of Davis and his career, making it a nearly definitive retrospective.
