Bo Diddley had a ragged energy unlike any other, and he understood that rhythm was more than forgiving of thrown-off lyrics if one did it right, and Bo Diddley did it right. After all, his name went on to become the very name of one of his favorite rhythms, and few performers have so artfully and boldly name-checked themselves like he did with "Bo Diddley." This live set, recorded in 1989 in France with keyboardist Bruce Katz, drummers Seth Pappas and Mike Flemming, and guitarist Milton Reder, is competent enough, particularly on the big and riff-driven "Roadrunner," but is hardly essential except for the most die-hard collectors and fans.
