Review by Scott Yanow
This spontaneous set finds Mel Tormé in typically fine form. The first seven selections, which find Tormé backed by pianist John Campbell, bassist Bob Maize and drummer Donny Osborne, have three medleys, including three songs having "Sing" in their title and a definitive eight-theme "Guys and Dolls Medley." As if that were not enough, Tormé is joined at this concert from the 1990 Concord Jazz Festival by the all-star Frank Wess-Harry Edison Orchestra for "Down for Double" and rollicking renditions of "You're Driving Me Crazy" and "Sent for You Yesterday and Here You Come Today." Mel Tormé fans will have to get this delightful session. Read More
