The Youngbloods were a decent band, and occasionally -- if the song was right -- even a very good band, but the group's late-'60s brand of folk-rock now sounds kind of like a watery blend of The Byrds and The Lovin' Spoonful, without the artful seriousness of the former or the joyful pop smarts of the latter. This brief compilation has at least two striking tracks, the languid, desperate "Four in the Morning" and the huge, iconic late-'60s hit "Get Together," but it lacks Jerry Corbitt's funky, ragged "Grizzly Bear" and the group's bright California country-rock version of the traditional "Sugar Babe," both of which would have given this sequence a lift. Read More
