ABOUT DAN GARDENER

Dan GardenerDaniel Gardener has never been caught without vision or ambition to achieve. At ten years old he had three paper routes simultaneously! What little spare time he had was taken up reading the hot rod magazines that celebrated the custom car culture of the sixties. He Idolized George Barris, a custom car builder from California who among many other unusual vehicles was responsible for TV's Batmobile and Munster Coach. Determined to follow in Barris' footsteps, Dan started working full time in the bodywork business at age thirteen, soaking up everything he could learn about the industry. But he still wanted to know more and took technical training in Kelowna and Victoria. By the age of fifteen he was working as a journeyman auto refinisher. Like many young people of the time, Dan had the urge to travel and visited Europe. Using his skills while on the road to support himself, he painted cars in Germany, Holland and Gibraltar. There he learned gravity spray gun technology. It wasn't until fifteen years later it was considered a state of the art phenomenon in North America.

Dan has accumulated mountains of research material on the business of painting and repairing vehicles. He was well aware that a lot of shops were not doing a good job. He began writing a consumer advocate column for a local newspaper which was just technical enough, but laid out in terms and language that anyone could understand. One of his articles from this period, 'How to Shop for a Body Shop' is still being used by one of the insurance companies. Using all the periodicals and resources flooding into his office and allied with a crack team of researchers and production staff, he hosts the first-of-its-kind-anywhere radio talk show on collision repairs and painting related subjects. The call-in show lets listeners ask questions they need the answers to.
